West Hawaii Today - Local > Naeole-Beason calls to delay new energy standards#blogcomments#blogcomments

Ms. Emily is just plane out of touch with the rest of the World. Everyone is working toward self sufficeny, and Green energy. While Ms. Emily is swimming backwards up the stream without a paddle.
For her shallow thoughts to loose our funding is just plane STUPID. Go Green and doing everything we can to move us forward. Just think if one day we didn't have boats and planes coming here to feed and cloth us what would we do???
This lady must be voted out for her shallow thoughts, and stupid actions. We are no longer cave men and need to move this County forward.

Hawaii seeks to partner with Google- Vote to Bring Hawaii into the Future

Hawaii would be a tremendous location to bring this high speed cable. We are the gateway to the east. Hawaii is cutting edge in many other areas.

Such as researchers at the World Wide telescopes on Mauna Kea, the sciencetis to study the Volcano, World Wide Tsunami Center, Milatary, cutting edge Natrual Energy Lab studying alternate energies, and alternate landing location for the shuttle.

Not to mention our Number one industry.
TOURISM.

Testimony for Greenwaste relocation WEDNESDAY

I am very concerned about the relocation of the Kealakehe Greenwaste site to Puuanahulu and the impact on Kona residents if the hours or days of being permitted to drop off green waste at Kealakehe are curtailed. This is a very distinct possibility. Although Lono Tyson, the outgoing Environmental Management Director has stated that it was never the intent to close it down, he has also said that services that can be provided there after the move up north are subject to funding and will have to be reduced.

I feel that any R.F.P. that is issued for a five-year contract at Puuanahulu should include specific provisions to keep the Kealakehe drop-off site open several times a week and to truck the green waste up to the new site. I also feel that a bona fide survey needs to be done of current users to determine the level of commercial and residential use. Independent gardeners dropping off waste for one or two individual residences should not be considered in the "commercial" category and should be able to drop off at Kealakehe or they will not be able to make a living.

Residents can testify at the Environmental Management Commission meeting this coming Wednesday, March 24th, at 9 a.m. in the Kailua-Kona County Council offices located in the Kailua Trade Center at 75-5706 Hanama Place, suite 109. Lono Tyson will be there and suggested that we attend to express our concerns.

Stress Management

Stress and a Glass of Water

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience,
raised a glass of water and asked,

'How heavy is this glass of water?'

Answers called out ranged from 20g. to 500g.
The lecturer replied, 'The absolute weight doesn'tmatter.
It depends on how long you try to hold it.
If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.
In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.'
He continued,
'And that's the way it is with stress management.
If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later,
as the burden becomes increasingly heavy,
we won't be able to carry on. '

'As with the glass of water,
you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.
When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden.'
'So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.
Don't carry it home.
You can pick it up tomorrow.
Whatever burdens you're carrying now,
So, my friend, put down anything that may be a burden to you right now.
Don't pick it up again until after you've rested a while.

Here are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life:
* Accept that some days you're the pigeon,
and some days you're the statue.
* Always keep your words soft and sweet,
just in case you have to eat them.
* Always read stuff that will make you look good
if you die in the middle of it.
* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be
recalled by their Maker.
* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply be kind to others.
* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time,
because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
* The second mouse gets the cheese.
* When everything's coming your way,
you're in the wrong lane.
* Birthdays are good for you.
The more you have, the longer you live.
* You may be only one person in the world,
but you may also be the world to one person.
* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
* We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
*A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

First measurable Rain of the year.

Yesterday afternoon we got almost 1/2 inch on rain. This has been the first measurable rain since November. Woke up to 63 degrees and a wet yard. We have a rain gauage but it has been sitting idol for some time now. Looked up to see if we had any snow on Mauna Loa, but the vog is shrouding the sumit and we can't see it.
Every little bit helps our dry fire hazardess landscape.

Census 2010 came knocking on my door today.

The Census is extremly important that you complete it. This gives the numbers that drive our economy, provide for schools, determine where the popluation is going, etc...
This census is done Nationaly every 10 years.
Please talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers and let them know how important it is that they complete it and send it in.
Our island's population has really changed over the last 10 years. It will be interesting to see the outcome.
