Billy Kenoi- Our Ahole Mayor: has proposed additional 28 positions when they haven't filled all the 30+ openings we already have.
Karen Eoff- Our Councilperson has agreed to a 10% Increase in our property taxes to pay an additional travel and expenses for our councilmembers. We have many in Puna/Kau and pay $100.00 while West Hawaii pays BIG BIG. $5.55 per thousand has now become a new value plus $9.55 per thousand.
I am so tired of the Big Island RIP OFFS.
At least Brenda Ford- Kona's Councilperson has fought against the Property Tax increase. Our token Common sense person as far as I know.
Sadly Hawaii is run like the Mafia/ underground, crooks..... The price you pay to live in paradise (paradise?perhaps)

Part time under the 20 hours equals no medical.
I have applied for many many many jobs over the last year and I find employers are really cheap. They want you to work under 20 hours so they don't have to pay your medical. Then when you work for them the job is not a 20 hour or less position.
I found this when I worked 10 months and asked for medical. They acted surprised. I have applied for 6 jobs and ALL want you under 20 hours.
Where are the Jobs????

Kona Police moonlight as Construction flag wavers.
Can anyone tell me why so many people are out of work and the contracts the County signs adds Police as crossing guards on the road construction? Where else in the Country can you wear your uniform and use it on a side job?
The roads on the mainland are ALL governed by employees not Police. The Police are hired to do Police work, not road guards.
The road crews hear doing the tree cut backs from the road are always traffic controlled by hired hands. Why is that?
It sure is NOT Bacon Davis that I can tell. Anyone know the answers? Let me know.
There is a safety video for directing traffic. This is not something the Tax Payers should be paying for in a Road Bid. How much could the Tax payers save?? You tell me.

Business Friendly? Hawaii?? NOT
How can you make a business from your home in Hawaii and think you are ok?
You go and get a business license. You file all of your taxes and then you get a letter from the County of Hawaii Tax Department. Now you owe over $3,000.00 because a neighbor complained and reported your business.
Everyone in my neighborhood has home based business like:
I can get any of the following services right here in my neighborhood: Electrical work, Plumber, Yard worker, hydroponics veggies, farm fresh eggs,arts, contractors, writter, piano teacher, babysitter, etc... plus over 2/3rds of my neighbors have illegal rentals. I pay taxes, I thought I was legal.
The Tax Department is not about being consistent. They just follow up on complaints! I don't see them charging everyone else for a home based business.
Don't come to Hawaii if you want to conduct business. The rent or the county will get you.
Our Rep. Karen Eoff was notified and has followed up. No answers though. What is going to happen when the University is built at the bottom of the hill and everyone rents their place.
Renting in Kona is like taking on a mortgage. and many owners want a percentage of your sales.
Hawaii is not business friendly.
